The law of cause and effect! Be aware and be careful.

Recently, I experienced a fall while jogging at night. I have fully recovered now, but I still question what caused the fall. Rather than dismiss it as just an accident or coincidence beyond my control, I want to take a closer look to understand the real reason behind it. Here’s what I found: it wasn't the first time I jogged at night, but it was the first time on that particular path, which has an uneven surface with several gaps. I had noticed these gaps when jogging during the day, but at night, in low-light conditions, my eyes didn't detect them as clearly, and I didn’t lift my feet high enough. This caused me to trip and fall.

This experience taught me that we are prone to tripping on uneven surfaces because our feet may not lift high enough to avoid obstacles. When walking or running on uneven ground, raised areas can catch the foot. Our bodies usually react quickly to sudden changes, but if the eyes or brain don’t recognize an obstacle in time to adjust the stride, we lose balance and are more likely to fall.

Additionally, speed matters. When walking slowly, the body has time to adjust each step, but running requires faster reactions. If we don’t lift our feet high enough or if the mind is distracted, the risk of tripping increases.

One more important note: whenever you encounter something for the first time and feel it might challenge you later, take it as a reminder to practice greater mindfulness.

Be aware, stay careful, and act promptly to prevent unwanted incidents.
